Volunteer Request for City of Acworth's Mother-Son Campout on September 14th

Posted on Sep 7 2019 - 9:40pm

BSA volunteers continue to help the City of Acworth Parks & Recreation with their annual Mother-Son Campout and we need your help.

Cubs and Scouts are welcome to come to Proctor Landing on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00am to help non-Scouts set up tents and staff games and activities. Come for as long as you can stay and eat for free! "Class B" attire is fine for this event. We plan to have orienteering, fishing, air rockets, cooking, and crafting para-cord bracelets and t-shirt bags. Contact Jeff Starnes at jlstarnes@bellsouth.net if you can help.

We Still Need Volunteers for the Cub Adventure Trail Event!

Posted on Jul 22 2021 - 8:33pm

The District Program Committee is still looking for a few adults and older scouts to help out with our inaugural Cub Adventure Trail event. We expect the event to take place on Saturday morning, August 14th, at Green Meadow Preserve in Marietta (3780 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064) but we have arranged a rain date of August 21st with the park. We still need adults to man a few activity stations, and older scouts to act as trail guides to shepherd small groups of Cubs and their parents along the Cub Adventure Trail. Scout volunteers will earn service hours! We are also in need of a few pop-up canopies to provide shelter to our station volunteers, and portable tables for the stations. If your unit or scouts are interested in helping in any way, please contact our Program Chair, Sharla Stewart, at progchair@silvercometdistrictbsa.org. Thanks in advance for helping to make this a fun event for our Cub Scout families!

Webelos Woods and Webelos Open House

Posted on Nov 2 2019 - 11:38pm

Thanks to our dedicated Membership Committee, the District's Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts were treated to not one but two district events in October!

First, they participated in a fun, camporee-style weekend at Woodruff Scout Reservation at Webelos Woods. 130 Webelos and AOL Scouts played patrol and camp-wide games, practiced orienteering and cooking, and took part in a campfire and Scouts' Own service. The District would like to thank Leah Briick and Chris Voigt for organizing and running the event, Audrey Taylor, Nancy Domoracki, and Katie Robinson for running the Health Lodge, RJ Kolencik and Shannon Fishback for cooking for the staff, and the Scouts and Scouters of Troop 675 (boys and girls), Troop 2096, and Crew 2500 for staffing the games.

On October 22nd, we held our most successful Webelos Open House ever! 66 Arrow of Light and Webelos Scouts attended the event and had the opportunity to visit with 23 different Scouts BSA units! If you missed this event or if you missed picking up a troop information packet, a pdf copy is now available here: https://www.silvercometdistrictbsa.org/system/files/WebelosOpenHouse2019.pdf. Thanks again to Leah Briick and Chris Voigt for organizing this event that facilitates the Webelos to Scout transition. Thank you also to Due West United Methodist Church for hosting the event for our district.

All the details and links to registration are available on our event page: https://www.silvercometdistrictbsa.org/node/1827.

Webelos Woods was a Great Success!

Posted on Oct 23 2021 - 9:13pm

Thank you to all who attended the 2021 Webelos Woods at Woodruff. We hosted 97 Webelos/Arrow of Light Cub Scouts and 93 adults/leaders from 16 packs. Our first ever “Welcome to Scouts BSA” information session was well attended and presented material to parents about what to expect after crossover. The addition of climbing was a big hit and what can we say about our Scout led campfire and Scouts' Own! The volunteer troops were a great help. Thanks to our Scouts and leaders that led games, campfire, flags and Scouts' Own. Our thanks go out to T675G, T675B, T2096, T61, T353, T405, Bob Griffin, Chuck and Sharla Stewart (Welcome to Scouts BSA), David Briick (climbing), and RJ and Shannon, our cook team.

It was a tremendous event. Mark your calendar for next year: Oct 14-16, 2022 at Woodruff Scout Reservation. And Troops, you don’t want to miss this volunteer opportunity. We start looking for volunteers now. Let us know if you want to help next year by sending an email to webelos@silvercometdistrictbsa.org.

World Conservation Award has new requirements, effective immediately

Posted on Dec 17 2016 - 3:27pm

The BSA National Conservation and Environment Task Force has announced new requirements for the Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing/Sea Scout versions of the World Conservation Award. The new requirements, which are now in effect, can be found at this link.

Whether you know the World Conservation Award as the “panda patch” or as the award that encourages Scouts and Venturers to think globally and act locally to improve and conserve our environment, there’s something you need to know.

The new requirements reflect the recent changes to the Cub Scout advancement program and the addition of the Eagle-required Sustainability merit badge in the Boy Scout program.
